*I got myself a vizsla puppy and thought training would be easy after having three dogs before. However, no such luck, he was a training nightmare and hyperactive. Shirley and Gill with their training regime and patience have given me the skills to train him into the lovely dog that he is today. The lessons are great for owners and dogs alike with lots of help and new things to learn each week."

"Knowing how difficult it is to train and English Springer we had a hesitant start which involved taking the initial puppy class twice (!) as Poppy was more interested in jumping around and generally playing up (rather than learning anything). With guidance and patience from both Shirley and Gill we have now gone on to complete the first follow on class. We have both learnt a great deal and enjoyed the experience. Poppy has really benefitted from the classes."

"So far so good .. I am amazed at how well 'yes' works and hope the progress Ebbie & I are making continues. Thank you." (note: 'yes' = clicker marker)

"Having previously owned a Vizsla who was easy to train I stupidly thought Vizsla no 2 would be as easy, how wrong I was!! Having already had amazing success with our Airedale Terrier, Bertie (yes I said amazing success with a terrier!!!) I thought it only sensible to take Digby (Vizsla no 2) to the Flying Paws classes. Now nearly 8 months old Digby has come on leaps & bounds & is continuing to improve. Many thanks"

"Rue, Joseph and I have loved every minute of the puppy classes. We have learned so much even though I had done some clicker-type training before. It was amazing to see all the different breeds of dog catered for and to see them all progress in such a short time. Rue was thirteen weeks old when we started and he now has all the basics: sit, down, leave, heelwork and a recall and we are able to use the clicker training in all aspects of life. We have had so many positive comments about his behaviour when we have been out and so much of it is down to his attention on us and our understanding of his behaviour. We are really looking forward to the continuation classes. Thank you very much, Shirley and Gill!"

"I got Blue back in October 2013 he was a year old beagle cross basset with no training to speak of. 'He is lovely but..' Was my first sentence he didn't like being left alone, he would bark and howl, I found this incredibly heart breaking. His recall was next to useless which in turn made me nervous, he pulled like mad aside from this he was the friendliest dog I've known, Shirley and Gill have helped us no end, he walks to heel, he waits at roads, I can leave him home alone no howling no barking just plenty of snoozing. His recall is improved enough so in some areas I feel confident enough to let him off. I've been training with Flying Paws since October, I shall be continuing for as long as I feel we should I don't think we've finished yet, I also think that you can't train your dogs enough or humans for that matter. Blue lives the classes too as do I. I can't recommend them enough."

"Absolutely loving the puppy classes - each week we come away with another little gem to tuck into our training knowledge base. It is so good to be able to work thru issues in a controlled environment watched over by experts. At last I am getting the confidence to know how to handle those tricky situations out in the real world. So so grateful for all the help and really looking forward to the next course! Thank you Shirley & Gill."

"To be honest I started the classes without much hope for Bob because in the house he was lovely and attentive but outside he was a different dog, He wouldn't recall, in fact he wouldn't look at me, or even flick an ear in recognition of his name being called! I actually had the vet check his hearing and sight because I've never known a dog be so unresponsive ... except of course he didn't have any issue hearing or seeing small furry things to chase. I never imagined in my wildest dreams that we'd be training him off lead, never mind within 4 weeks! I'm so proud of him and ever grateful to you, this training will change his life and it has improved my bond with him hugely."

"Thank you so much for your wonderful expertise and fun "flying Paws" training course held for puppies based in Forest Row. Sasha my Staffy has certainly responded well to the training so far, and she no doubt will benefit to further work as well as myself !!!"

"Huge thanks to Shirley and Gill for their help and patience with my Romanian rescue pup , Doris.
I arrived for week 1 with a terrified 6 month old pup who screamed at people and dogs and wouldn’t let anyone touch or go near her . Shirley and Gill spent weeks just throwing food near her , giving her space to watch and learn, putting up with her screams and face pulling, guiding me in the best way to help and build her confidence, until she finally began to relax and join in with some of the class exercises.
By the end of the second course she was yelling in the car as we drove in, pulling me down to the field and trying hard in the class, but still very wary and keeping as far away as she could.
We have just finished our third group and ...........WOW ! Doris was a full member of class, did everything she was asked (while other dogs were working around her), settled quietly on the ground next to me watching, and, best of all, let Shirley fuss and stroke her.
I am so thrilled with our progress, and so grateful for all the help and advice I have received, and am really looking forward to continuing our journey with Flying Paws .........THANK YOU" (see photo here of Doris and one of her class rosettes)

"I'd just say thank you for 2 great courses. I've really enjoyed them and Charlie is so good with everything (well almost...we're getting there with recall). Looking forward to the next course." (see photo here of Charlie and one of his class rosettes)

"Thanks for squeezing us into the class this time. Although she is not the easiest dog to train and we have a long way to go, I have seen huge changes in Amber since the classes and think it has done us both good. The long line walking is going well and we no longer need to use a halti. She sits. Lays down, waits and stays, leaves things and comes to call at home or in low arousal areas. Many of our friends have noticed how much better she is so we are very pleased.
Thanks for you patience with us."
Charly and Amber (Pointer X, Rescue) July 2013
"Thank you Shirley and Gill for offering such a positive, practical course. Really helpful. I would recommend to anyone with a dog! We will keep coming please!"
Jo and Darwin (Beagle) July 2013
"Inque and Rossie thoroughly enjoyed their classes and made good progress. We will keep coming!"

"Although Shirley and Gill don’t train dogs specifically to win awards, we found that their expert, patient and fun training meant that when we took our two naughty beagles, Bertie and Eddie, to the Kennel Club’s Bronze-level Good Citizen Award, they passed with flying colours. Well, flying ears, really. Thank you! You’ve made a huge difference to our lives and the lives of our two lovely little friends."
Bertie and Eddie (Beagles), Mayumi and Dan July 2013
"I've absolutely loved the puppy course, and its given me the basics to train Ziggy in a really nice, positive way. And best of all it works! Sunday Ziggy went off the lead again in the forest, doing lots of recall games - and he kept coming back to me each and every time. Excellent progress!"
Leonoor and Ziggy (Springer Spaniel) April 2013
"I would like to say thank you for a great training course. It has been so much more interesting to be outside and both my dog and particularly myself have learnt a great deal in a relatively short space of time. All the tips we have been taught are extremely useful for everyday use and make life as a dog alot easier.
Many thanks for your help and encouragement and we look forward to joining the follow on course."
Ruth and Leo (German Shepherd) February 2013
"I would just like to say that both Maxi and I had fantastic time during your classes and I am very much looking forward to continuing our training with you. You have definitely set me up on the right path of becoming a responsible dog owner. "
Darija and Maxi (German Shorthaired Pointer) February 2013
"A big thank you for the informative and fun classes that Abbie and I attended. We really enjoyed ourselves (despite the mud) and we both learned a lot by using your training methods. I had real trouble with heel work with Abbie. She is so strong and pulled me so much that I have developed upper arm muscles like Serena Williams! With your heel work training she took to it like a duck to water and after 15 months of struggling to get her to walk to heel, it took about 5 minutes at your class! We are both looking forward to the next course in January."
Liz and Abbie (Springer Spaniel) December 2012
"The Pre-Agility Course was well organised and the one-on-one tuition was excellent. Hector and I loved it and are looking forward to starting the Agility Course"
Sarah and Hector (Labrador) December 2012
"Myself and Willem and of course Darcey have enjoyed your Training course's hugely and have all learnt so much which I hope to continue at home. Both of you are very welcoming, professional and have such a wealth of knowledge. I have and will continue to recommend you to my doggy friends in The Newick area. :)"
Amber, Willem and Darcey (Dalmation) November 2012
"Excellent training; dog & handler jointly enjoyed and learnt a lot."
Malcolm and Doodle (Labradoodle) October 2012
"Thank you, to both of you. The lessons have been very informative and instructions clear. You are both very calm and friendly which helps us dog owners be too!!
Frankie and I have especially benefited from the recall section. Again .. many thanks."
Denise and Frankie (Labradoodle) August 2012
"Time flies! We can hardly believe that Bertie’s 5th and Eddie’s 3rd obedience courses are about to finish.
The class contents are always carefully adjusted for each dog and training is fun, with heaps of useful advice and encouragement.
There aren’t many humans Bertie and Eddie pay a lot of respect to, but Shirley and Gill get more than anyone (including us!). Also, we must say that we are extremely grateful for the advice on behavioural issues at home; it’s really helped and given us great comfort.
You have no idea how much we are looking forward to the classes every week! See you in the next course."
Bertie and Eddie (Beagles), Mayumi and Dan June 2012
"Really friendly and helpful and has given us confidence as a family with a new dog. Would recommend to all. Many thanks."

"I would like to thank Shirley and Gill, for helping me to understand and control my reactionary dog.
Our walks have changed from being a nightmare to pure joy. Thank you"
Liz and Sonny (Labrador x Staffordshire Bull Terrier) May 2012
(Note: Liz and Sonny had a lot of one to one sessions with Shirley before joining our general class . Reactive - more commonly called aggressive dogs - can only have one to one sessions before joining in a group class)
"Really enjoyed the course. Lots of good tips and ideas to take away and use at home. Thank you."
Linda and Harry (The Sausage Star) (Dachshund cross) February 2012
"After adopting our rescue Border collie, Pepsi, we realised that although Pepsi is a very obedient dog, she clearly had social issues with other dogs, most probably as a result of her past. We wanted to help Pepsi being less anxious around other dogs and as Flying Paws Agility and Obedience came highly recommended it was our first choice
We are nearing the end of the course, and Pepsi has made a significant improvement when around other dogs, we have some way to go, but are very much on the right route. Apart from Pepsi learning a lot, the course has been of immense value, in terms of me handling Pepsi and the realisation of the influence my behaviour has on Pepsi.
I would highly recommend Flying Paws to anyone whom is looking for training a dog."
Marijke and Pepsi (collie) February 2012
"Because Bertie came to us from a rescue centre at the age of 16 months without enough training and guidance in his previous life, we’re determined to make him a happy dog. Training him to learn the rules he needs to know so that he can live with humans is the only way to do that.
During Shirley and Gill’s classes we’ve been amazed by his intelligence and endless appetite for food. Helped by those, and Shirley and Gill’s wonderful, practical training, he has come on in leaps and bounds. We couldn’t be happier to have Shirley and Gill as our trainers, showing us lots of effective and enjoyable methods and also giving us great advice on individual problems. As much as Bertie as learning, we know the classes are really for us, his owners, to learn how to draw out his potential. The most important thing we’ve learned is to stay positive, confident but firm, and understand dog psychology.
We’re now trying to get Eddie, 5 months old, ready to join the January class with Bertie, and can’t wait!"
Bertie and Eddie (Beagles), Mayumi and Dan December 2011
"Bertie is my fourth dog & not our first Airedale, every training class is different & brings new ideas which are always helpful. We are enjoying the class, it is good for us to have to work along side other dogs & their handlers. Now that Bertie is entering his teenage zone I feel it is particularly important to keep attending classes. Thank you."
Fiona & Bertie (Airedale Terrier) September 2011
"Kiba, Chiyo & I are really enjoying the training course and although I have some knowledge you have taught me a lot, and the “clicker” training is very good. Manchester terriers are not the easiest of dogs, although very intelligent, with lots of help and encouragement from you and Gill I have two very well behaved and obedient dogs, thank you very much and look forward to the Agility 8-week course."
Suzan & Kiba & Chiyo (Manchester Terriers) July 2011
"Both Shirley and Gill have a wealth of knowledge and experience with dogs in all spheres and not only have they made their pre-agility lessons fun and progressive they have also provided me with the necessary handling skills to deal with my dogs reactive behaviour towards other dogs which was becoming a major issue if left unaddressed, so thank you very much for your help on that side of things Shirley. Buzz finds the agility lessons very rewarding as the main focus is on having fun and learning through play which is the key to getting him focused on me and the agility equipment. I cant wait for the next course, and neither can Buzz!"
Alisa & Buzz (collie) May 2011
"Having previously attended other training classes, I can honestly say I have never enjoyed training a dog as much as I have with Flying Paws. The enthusiasm and methods shown to me have been so useful for me and my dog. We actually always wanted to attend each week (which had never been the case with previous dog clubs I had been to!).
